Thanks for your input. But:

  1. This extension is about removing parts of the URL, not adding them.
  2. In the vast majority of cases, "www.domain.com" is the same as "domain.com".

So: not gonna happen.

I understand your point of view, however I regularly encounter a site where I am in say forum.domain.com, and want to go to www.domain.com, but my uppity friend fails because domain.com does not work.

So maybe, from a user perspective:

  1. This extension is about moving to other parts of a site
  1. In cases where domain.com is not supported, but www.domain.com is, I would like uppity to stay my friend.

I think that it should be another extension or even firefox itself to add the www. to the address if domain.com doesn't exist.

I would also vote to NOT add that functionality to this extension. I think it would make using it more confusing and potentially function undesirably.

Replying to João Santos <jmcsantos87@gmail.com>:

I think that it should be another extension or even firefox itself to add the www. to the address if domain.com doesn't exist.

I would like Uppity to have the function adding www. in front because some websites just don't support domain.com. Maybe add an option for the user to choose whether or not activate this function?

I think domain names with www. in front is more formal and preferable to those without. For Firefox and IE, when a user inputs some words like 'example' and hits ctrl+enter, browsers complete the address not only with .com but also with www. in front.

so, I think Uppity should list ttp://trac.arantius.com/ticket/ ttp://trac.arantius.com/ AND ttp://www.arantius.com/ NOT ttp://arantius.com/ for this page. Then, when a user clicks the third option, it's up to the server to redirect the user to ttp://arantius.com/ or not.

And sites that usually don't have www. in front almost always work fine with www. in front, but sites that have www. in front often fail to load if www. is omitted.

(In [481]) Fixes #50

  • Add a link to "www.example.com" when it is not already present.

Please remove this. Firefox does redirect to the same url with www. in front if it does not load without it.

Or, if you don't want, please add an option for it.

Thanks!
