tab closing, focus on left lag

I notice that when closing a tab in Firefox 3.5, the focus goes to the right tab first ('normal' firefox behavior), and then quickly switches to the left tab (what I want to happen). There is a noticible lag, which manifests as focusing first on the right tab, then quickly switching to the left tab. It looks like a workaround; I can tolerate it, just wondering if the developer can look at the code to see if this 'lag' can be eliminated.
