Priority: critical Component: Uppity
Version: 1.5.2 Severity: Disrupts Browser

Description

Upity under Firefox 3.5b4 OSX. Version 1.5.2 overrides existing keybindings and doesn't offer any way to revert to the previous (pre-#233) behavior. Had to drop back to v1.5.1

Like I said in #233, I'm not a Mac user, so I didn't know this would happen.

What are the existing native keybindings? I'm curious.

By default, Apple+Up goes to the top of the page, and Apple+Down goes to the bottom of the page. It would seem wise (under any platform) for Uppity to either make its bindings optional or allow the user to select the keystrokes.

I use Firefox 3 on a Mac and was used to the way Uppity 1.5.1 worked. Version 1.5.2 retains the old Alt+Up and Alt+Down keyboard shortcuts but adds (unnecessarily, in my opinion) Command+Up and Command+Down, replacing Firefox's normal ones. I didn't even notice I used those keyboard shortcuts until they changed!

I would appreciate it if you removed the new ones or let the user specify them. I'm happy to stick with Alt+Up and Alt+Down. I would like to make it clear that I like Uppity a lot and do not intend to come across as a whiner! (I'm actually a whinger.)

Whoops! I'm assuming everyone knows Mac jargon. For what it's worth: The Apple key is also known as the Command key. The Alt key is also called the Option key. Intuitive isn't it? Yeah, I know...

So, to clarify, the ones I'm used to are Alt+Up and Alt+Down. The ones that now trip me up are Apple+Up and Apple+Down.

(In [513]) Fixes #272

  • Remove Apple-Up and Apple-Down key bindings, which blocked the defaults already on those keys.
