Menu Will Not Collapse in FF3

Reported by: develop@… Owned by: t-bone
Priority: major Component: Tiny Menu
Version: 1.4.9 Severity: Broken
Keywords: Cc:

Description

After installing FF3 the menu seemed to work fine and stayed collapsed. however, the moment the theme was changed, the menu restored and will not collapse no matter what. I have enabled, disabled, re-installed, cleared out the settings and reconfigured, nothing seems to make it work or collapse. I am currently even using the default theme and no go. Any ideas?

From what to what?

From v2.0.0.14 using Aero Silver which when updated to 3.0 was not compatible and so it changed to the default theme. After Aero Silver had an update, I reverted back only to have this problem. I then tried iCandy Jr. and still the same and then back to default and still the same problem. Nothing seems to change it.

That theme gives me no problems. I suggest you try a BlankProfile to locate the source of the problem.

Well that's irrelevant as this is a clean profile and there is a problem whether you can replicate it or not. Several times the browser opened up with the menu collapsed but each time it appears with a "divider" line as best as I can describe in the bottom half of the browser. Then I close it and reopen and most of the time the menu is not collapsed and the "divider" line is gone. I have now tested it opening it 10 times and only 2 times the menus were collapsed. If you don't think anything is wrong then don't do anything but if you care to make sure its solid, then look into it more and find out why it is behaving this way with the new browser.

Well that is irrelevant, because if I can't replicate it, then I can't diagnose it nor fix it. And if it really is a blank profile, the best thing you can do is post the exact list of steps you take (starting from said blank profile) that makes it happen.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Screenshots can easily be attached to the ticket.

I provide this software for free, and you sure aren't paying for the support. If you want me to help you, you're going to have to help me.

there is only so much a user can do to help you replicate a problem, at one point as the developer, you need to take the initiative to figure it out. I am a developer of 15+ years and I know that when a user tells me something doesn't work and I ask them to tell me about it and they do their best to describe it and show me, it then becomes my job to figure it out, not theirs.

yeah a picture is worth a thousand words and if you tell me you don't know what a divider looks like then no problem, I have attached a screenshot

If you are saying free software equals crap because people don't pay, then you are in this for the wrong reason. you chose to participate in an open source development environment and I AM helping you by taking my time to contact you and paying for it with my precious time at the rate of $75 per hour, how much do you make? when most people would just dump the extension, write crappy reviews about it and move on. So mind your attitude a bit, you want this program to work or you happy to just release things that are free and not working?

If you continue harassing me and being condescending, I will ignore this ticket.

Your screenshots show that this is clearly not "a clean profile" as you have claimed above. I also don't see the one thing you did say you have, the theme "Aero Silver".

Please provide the information detailed as in the wiki pages: wiki:Tickets and wiki:BlankProfile.

You wanna ignore the ticket because you don't know how to fix it or can't, then do it. But I am neither harassing you nor being condescending, you are the one who was rude to me when all I was trying to do is tell you there is something wrong and help you fix it. So you got things way backwards here and don't put it on me.

It is a clean profile because it was created in the same manner as it was in previous version (where everything was working fine) and it was done with a clean profile in version 3. An extension needs to work on its own merits and not based on who elses' work and what other extensions are present. You want me to just open a clean profile with YOUR extension and say, hey all is well in the world and you don't have to do anything and that's not how development works.

As for the Aero, if you actually read the ticket, I clearly stated that it was in Aero but when the new application was released and it was not compatible, it reverted to the default theme. The icandy jr was installed later and had the problem along with the new Aero theme. Let's try to get it to work with the default theme (which is what its using now) and then we will worry about Aero theme or do you want that theme running to debug your work? I'd be happy to change it to that.

As you can see in the new screenshot, I changed to another theme and on the first run (after you click restart firefox) everything is fine, but if you close and re open firefox, not ok, back to being messed up.

As you can see in the new screenshot, changed to aero this time and again for the first run it was fine and the second time you run it and on, nothing back to being messed up.

Yes I have and the information was already provided, you know which version of the extension and firefox there is and if you need to know which doesn't have any bearing on this problem, I am on a Vista x64 Ultimate. And as far as the profile, we've been through this, its already been explained and it is clean. As subsequent screenshots show, its the extension because it comes and goes without any other changes. If you need something else, don't send me a page, just ask.

Hello, I just installed FF 3.0 after uninstalling FF 2 and I have added on your Tiny Menu and the add on just doesn't want to work from a new fresh installation. If you have anything that can help it to work I would greatly appreciate it.

This doesn't sound like the same issue this ticket is reporting. Please read wiki:Tickets and file a new ticket, including all the details requested there.

Are you even paying attention to what this thread is? It is exactly what the problem is. The fact is that after installing FF3 your extension doesn't work and is very unstable and he did the additional element that you were whining about with me and installed a clean profile with JUST your extension. I mean come on, you don't want to fix things just post a sign saying so and stop wasting everyone's time but if people take the time to let you know, you should at least try to respect your own work and do something.

As I said, this system does not exist in order to gather abuse.

THIS EXTENSION WORKS. It has tens of thousands of active users. It's possible that something specific causes some kind of conflict such that in combination, it does not work. If you won't give me the information I need to figure out what it is, then there is nothing that I can do.

DO NOT COMMENT ON THIS TICKET. DO NOT REOPEN THIS TICKET. DO NOT DO ANYTHING HERE.

If you can actually read wiki:Tickets and provide ALL the information that it requests, then open a NEW ticket and I will continue to provide labor to you for free. If not, please just go away.
